WINNING START IN RED FM LEAGUE

Kilworth 1-17 Ballinhassig 0-12 (March 16th, 2022)

On a cold March night in heavy underfoot conditions Kilworth led from pillar to post to secure an opening win in Group A of the Red FM Division 2 hurling league. Starting strongly and quickly out of the blocks we led 1-9 to 0-2 after fifteen first half minutes with Eoin Carey finding the net for the only green flag of the game. Noel McNamara was unerring from placed balls with Jeromy Saich landing a brace of points from play in this period of the contest. Ballinhassig came into the game in the second quarter landing four points to Kilworth’s two to leave it 1-11 to 0-6 at half time.

The second half was a much more even affair with both sides scoring six points a-piece, to leave the outcome 1-17 to 0-12. This was a good opening to the league campaign with the groundwork laid in the opening quarter with a great start and a good lead built up which provided the cushion for the remainder of the game.

Up next for the lads is an away tie with Kildorrery, on Sunday evening.

Team and scorers; Killian Heggtveit, Mike Gowen, Austin O’Hara, Conor Hynes, Liam Whelan, Dave Twomey, Eoin McGrath, Kieran Lane 0-1, Jeromy Saich, Luke Carey, Noel McNamara 0-11 (0-9 f’s, 1 ‘65’), Brian Sheehan, Leo Coffey, Eoin Carey 1-1, Mike Sheehan 0-1. Subs used; Dan O’Regan, Ryan Jordan.
